Database Portability Policy

The Aliro policy is that the ideal is cross database platform portability, but it is recognized that current technology makes that difficult and imposes implementation penalties. It therefore remains a long term vision for Aliro that portability should be achieved, and practical steps (such as avoiding reserved words from any system) will be pursued. But for current developments, MySQL is the platform of choice, on account of its near ubiquity in commercial web hosting, its practicality for web applications and its widespread adoption by web developers. Pragmatic choices will be made on the use of features specific to MySQL that give significant performance gains or other advantages.
